St. Cronan's Boys' National School

Infections in School

Infectious diseases are a major cause of illness among school going children. Hand washing is the single most important part of infection control. Teaching children the skills of hand washing, along with coughing and sneezing etiquette is essential in breaking the chain of infection, regardless of the cause.

Appropriate vaccination of children, in line with the National Immunisation Guidelines, has resulted in fewer childhood illnesses.

Appropriate control measures in St. Cronan's will minimise transmission both within the school, but also to the wider community.

Below are a list of some of the infections that children may pick up. By clicking each link, you can learn how to best cope with and treat these conditions, and minimise the risk to your child and to others that he may come into contact with.

We ask that parents please inform the school immediately of any instances of infection, so that we can minimise the risk for all of our pupils.
