We're back after the Halloween Break and straight back to work !
Here are just some of the things we have been up to ...
St. Cronan's Annual Book Fair took place from November 5th - 9th. We sold over €4,300 worth of books. The school will receive books to the value of €2,600 as a result. This will enable us to build up the small libraries that we have in each classroom.
Many thanks to all of you for supporting this event. A special thank you to the parents who helped out over the 3 days.
November 2010 saw the founding of a new Student Council in St. Cronan's. The six boys involved (two boys from each of the three 6th Classes) will help Mr. Dodd in dealing with issues that are important to the pupils. The members of the council will change every month or so, to give as many boys as possible a chance at leadership in the school.
Christmas Shoebox Appeal
This year Duignan's 6th Class organised the Shoebox Appeal. There was a great response through out the school. Lots of shoeboxes were collected from every class. These brightly wrapped shoeboxes contain small toys, picture books, writing tools and notebooks, as well as toothbrushes, toothpaste, stickers and all sorts of other things.
The gifts are sent to various countries around the world and bring joy to children, who might otherwise never receive a gift at Christmas.
Well done to Ms Duignan and her class for organising this very worthwhile event.
Peace Poster Competition:
During the month of November, the boys from 5th and 6th Class in St. Cronan's took part in the International Peace Poster Competition organised by Bray Lions Club.
The standard of artwork was extraordinarily high this year, and there were many winners from all 6 of the classes involved. The overall winner was Jake N. from Ms Healy's 6th Class (poster to the right).
All the entrants are displayed in the school hall.
Christmas Carol Singing:
Every year, the 5th & 6th class pupils dedicate some of their time over the Christmas period to raise money for the twin parishes in Africa. Yet again this year, Mr Barry has organised this very successful event, and Ms Healy lead the singing.
The boys sang (in the snow !) outside the Holy Redeemer Church and raised funds for Ikanga (the Kenyan Twin-Parish of Holy Redeemer) and Bugisi (the Tansanian Twin-Parish of Queen of Peace). This event was coupled with a No-Uniform Day in the school for all classes.
A big thank you to all the boys involved !
The boys in 5th and 6th Class set up a Mini-Company again this year under the guidance of Mrs Nóirín Dodd. They made Cro-Rockers and sold them at the Christmas Tree Sale in the school.
They made over €600 for the school, so well done to all those who took part, and special thanks to Mrs Dodd for all of her help !
The Big Freeze 2010
Yet again this year, along with most other schools in the Bray area, our school was disrupted by the snow. Health and Safety of the pupils was paramount in our decision to remain closed.
However when we returned to school, there was still enough snow on the school grounds to have a bit of fun !!
