Parents' Activities Committee
It's hard to believe that we are on the wind down to the school year already ! The Parents' Activities Committee have had a very busy and fruitful year and we have to thank all the parents for their support in enabling us to kit out our state of the art Computer Room (well done to all and everyone for the hard work in fundraising for this project).
(I know I'll get in trouble for this but I have to start a sentence with because but!!!) Because of this big outlay our back up funds are pretty thin, so we have decided to make a big effort to try raise a few bob before the end of year!
We have a few events organised (not all will cost you time or money - some will earn you money!!). So the PAC would be really grateful if you could put the following dates in you diary. If you would be available to help at any of the events please don't be shy!
We have organized a great universal day for Friday the 21st May - St. Cronan's are organising their Summer Bedding Plant Sale, Cake Sale and Intercultural Demonstration Day. Sounds a bit daunting I know but it will be loads of fun and there should be something for everyone from the babies all the way up to the grandparents - so please come along and have a bit of fun.
The Family Fun Quiz will be held on the 18th June 2010 (in the school hall). The kids really enjoy this evening (showing up the parents - cause they know more of the answers!)
A note will go out in the school bags closer to the time so be sure to book your table early as the quiz fills up quickly.
Also, St. Fergal's Parish Annual Fete is on the 19th June, and they have asked for our support. More information is available here.
We will be Welcoming our New Parents to St. Cronan's on the 31st May and the 1st and 2nd of June, we are proposing to show them our new classes and then introduce them to our new computer room. St. Cronan's has developed so much in the last few years that we feel that it is as important for the current students and their families to see the new developments too so we have introduced a separate evening for the 8th of June for all the parents to see just how much their hard effort and donations have paid off, and what we have achieved over the last year.
Our job as the PAC is to listen to and support the parents and like everyone we appreciate that times are hard so we have looked at the possibility of organizing a book rental scheme for the kids books but because of our huge outlay on computers this year the PAC cannot cover the initial outlay to purchase the books.
So because of this we have decided to hold our Second-Hand Book Sale again this year to try to alleviate the pressure on parents. For the parents that are unfamiliar with this, what happens is - your child hands in their books that will be used by the following year and the PAC sell them and you get the sale of the book or books back. It also means that you can purchase your son's books for the following year considerably cheaper. So hopefully it's a win win situation. We have not set the date yet but it will probably be around the 24th, 25th or 26th June (don't worry we will give you plenty of notice in the school bags !!)

Tracy Wilson
