Bray Lions Club - Clean Sweep of Bray '09
On Saturday 9th May, 50 pupils from St Cronan's and St Patrick's joined forces with the Bray Lions Club to help make Bray a cleaner place and raise funds for their schools. The annual event, now in it's 5th year, is sponsored by Greenstar.
The volunteers and a number of parents helped to litter from the Main Street, Vevay Road, Church Road, Southern Cross Road to name but a few areas. This project links in with St Cronan's Green School Project. Some of the boys from St Cronan's also took part in Bray Coastcare's clean-up on the same day.
Many thanks John Nolan (Greenstar), Moira Byrne (Wicklow Co. Council) and Frank Corr (President of Bray Lions Club), and also to Mr Karl Ó Broin for organising the event this year.

Inauguration of the Delgany Schools Cup
Friday 29th May saw the inauguration of the Delgany Schools Cup for Wicklow Primary school golfers. Brilliantly sponsored by Hilary Hayden & Co., the competition was hosted by Delgany Golf club which saw budding Pádraig Harringtons from several local schools, including St. Cronans arrive at 7.30 am for the competition.
Our two school teams were chosen from an initial group of 40 enthusiastic golfers with the honour of representing us falling to Jack Reynolds, Daniel Treanor, Cathal Martin and Garreth Byrne, all in 6th class.
They acquitted themselves very well in the 9 hole competition but they had to give way to an excellent team from Delgany National School, the overall Boys Winners. St. Brigid’s in Greystones won the Girls’ competition.
Our 5th class team came out tops in the skills coaching with Niall Martin, Jack Nolan, Conor Prendergast and Eoin Keenan representing the school.
This is going to be an annual event so with holidays approaching there will be plenty of time for interested golf-hopefuls to get down to work and improve their handicap!
We are most grateful to Susanne and Dominic Martin who not only spent time coaching the boys prior to the competition but they took time off work to accompany them through the competitions. Thanks also to Mr Hammill and his committee in Delgany GC
Well done to all and congratulations to our representatives and to the Delgany NS and St. Brigid’s winning teams. It was wonderful day.

Into the West - Westport School Tour
On Friday June 5th, a party of 34 boys from 2nd - 6th class headed to Mayo for a weekend of adventure sports. They were accompanied by 13 of their parents and Mr Dodd.
Luckily for them the dreadful weather experienced on the east coast remained there, as the sun shone throughout the weekend. Reflecting on the weekend, one boy said that it was his ‘best fun time ...ever!’
An exhausted, merry band of adventurers arrived safely back in Bray on Sunday evening, now skilled in quad biking, archery, rock climbing, canoeing, raft building, surfing, fencing, ‘aeroball’ trampoline....and pool!
Most impressive was the spirit and cohesion of the group with the older boys supporting and caring for the younger ones. It was a weekend they will remember, even if few enough of them managed to catch much sleep. Despite the mountain of clothes needing to be washed, I’m sure they would all like to experience it again. Next year perhaps!
Thanks to all the Dads for helping out, to Tom Groarke and Vanessa for organising the trip and to Horizon Adventure Centre.
