As we welcomed in the 2009, we are still as busy as ever !
On the 5th January '09, work began in St Cronan's on the building of 6 new classrooms. These classrooms will replace the existing prefabs.
It is hoped that this work will all be finished by the end of the school year, and that the new classrooms will be ready for Sept '09.
On the 8th of January, some of the boys in 6th class went on a school tour to 7Up Christmas on Ice in the RDS in Dublin. A great tour was had by all.
It was nearly as much fun as the snow we had in February !!
In January, the boys from Mr Vance's 4th class and Ms Healy's 5th Class handed over a cheque for €905 to the Five Loaves Centre in Bray.
This money was collected from tickets that were sold for their Christmas Play, Cinderella (for photos from the Play, click here !)
The Fives Loaves is a drop-in centre for homeless and marginalised people in Bray.
On the 3rd of February, the boys from 1st - 3rd class celebrated the Chinese New Year. Master Sam Sun gave a Martial Arts display in the hall. He showed all sorts of different weapons, and his moves were really cool.
Shu Rong, one of the parents in our school, also taught the boys how to say some simple words and phrases in Chinese.
During January and February, the boys in 6th Class have been involved in the Faith Friend Programme for Confirmation in both Holy Redeemer and Queen of Peace parishes. The were also visited by Kevin Doyle on the 10th February, and he gave the boys guidance about the dangers of alcohol, before the boys made their decision about taking the pledge.
The boys also had their Enrolment Masses for the Sacrament of Confirmation during January.
Snow Hits Bray !
At the very beginning of February, Bray was hit hard by the snow. This was great news for the boys of St Cronan's as it meant the had a chance to build snowmen, and throw the odd snowball at each other !!
Here you can see Mr Vance's class building their very own Frosty !
How very appropriate that they got a chance to play in the snow. They have just finished doing a class project on Antarctica.
On Thursday the 12th February, St Cronan's were presented with their 4th Green Flag. This great honour comes after a lot of work from Mr Ó Murchú, Ms Walsh and the Green Committee.
For the last year, the boys in all of our classes have been learning about Eco-Friendly Travel and we have been trying to increase the amount of boys who walk and cycle to school. An Taisce recently provided us with a brand-new bicycle shelter as well.
On Tuesday the 24th February, all the boys from the 5th and 6th Classes will have their second Group Rehearsal for the National Children's Choir.
This time, instead of other schools visiting St. Cronan's, we will be hosted by Newtownmountkennedy.
There will only be one more group rehearsal before the concert itself, which will take place in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght in April.
South African Project
Ms McCloskey's 5th class were asked to take part in a Bank of Ireland project. We got to choose what part of history we wanted to do. We chose South Africa during and after Apartheid. Everyone had a part to do. It took us six weeks. We stuck the projects onto what looks like a giant notepad. Next, we decorated a board with black and white stick people and pictures from during and after Apartheid. Most of us made a model of Nelson Mandela in his cell on Robben Island. Next week we will be submitting it into Bank of Ireland for the competition. We are hoping to win a laptop for our school.
