St. Cronan's has received the great honour of having
a member of the school staff named as
Bray Person of the Year in both 2012 and 2013.
Mr. Vaughan Dodd was presented with this award following his retirement in December 2011. He was honoured for his years of service as Principal of both St. Cronan's and Principal of St. Fergal's Junior School.
On becoming Principal of St. Cronan's in 1991, he saw that the majority of pupils were accommodated in prefabricated classrooms he considered were unfit for use. He began a long campaign which culminated in the official opening of the new school building in 2001. With the growth in enrolment, he also oversaw the building of a major extension in 2009. Upon his retirement in 2011, the new wing of the school was dedicated to him as 'The Dodd Wing'.
Mr. Karl Ó Broin was named Bray Person of the Year 2013 for his work in leading and coordinating the charity campaign to raise funds for one of his pupils, Michael Tiron. Michael was born with Cerebral Palsy and was confined to a wheelchair from age 3. Thanks to the "Michael's Hope for Independence" campaign spearheaded by Karl, Michael was able to achieve his dream of walking for the first time, following successful surgery in the USA.
At the awards ceremony, Mr. Ó Broin paid tribute to Michael, who walked up to present him with the award, saying that Michael's determination and drive to walk was an inspiration to us all.
